Environmental Friendly Residence for Artists` 05

June 1 - September 30, 2005 - Tchamla Kingdom

The Art Residence is designed to provide environment and conditions for independently working artists to experience new situation, which gives opportunity for building personal creative capacity. They will be invited to work interdisciplinary.

The Residence in Tchamla Kingdom creates conditions for artists to come out of the frame of their everyday activities and to experience environment, which provokes spontaneity and leads to creative process.

Tchamla Kingdom is a mountain eco-village (still under construction) based on the principles of permaculture - design system invented by the Australian ecologist Bill Mollison together with David Holmgren in the 70`s. The term is coming from Permanent agriculture it seeks to combine good ideas for gentle living and create sustainable living systems.

Permaculture has now come to mean more then just a new way of gardening or farming. The whole system involves architecture, town planning, economics, politics and philosophy. For the coming years we will try to find ways of harmonious integration of people to into the landscape in such way that land grows in richness and aesthetic beauty. Everyone working in Tchamla should try to find ways of working with rather then against nature.

During the residency the artists could experiment with raw materials and work with objects from the local environment. Artists should draw their own personal agenda and lead the process them-selves, without any supervision. We target emerging artists, working in the field of contemporary dance, theatre, visual arts, photography, land-art, architecture and stage design using interdisciplinary approach, crossing borders between different disciplines, ready to explore forms in rural context or just willing to recharge in calmness.

Deadline for applications at least 1 month before chosen period. All selected participants who need visa will receive official invitation at the Bulgarian embassy in the nearest city or country. The organizers will provide pick up service from Smoljan upon request. Resident artists will choose their accommodation in houses within the village (most houses are ruined or under construction). Facilities for basic self-catering and organic food provided. Group applications accepted. For more information do not hesitate to contact us on kingdom@art-hostel.com or tkotov@bol.bg
